I'm sure it's mostly clear by now, but I wrote it... so I'm biased: the frowny-faced guys are the squad leaders, the startled-faced guys are the riflemen/troopers, and the gleefully-faced guys are the heavy machine gunners.
Oh... the cliche is that heavy people are jolly... not heavy machine gunners... Well, I like it anyhow. ;)
